(2022)

As an artist, I believe that art has the power to inspire and uplift, to help us find meaning and purpose in our lives. I have recently been fascinated by the world of Greek Mythology, from the architectural structures, the Olympian Gods, to the way life was lived back then which is now told to us in myths. I wanted to create something with meaning, a piece that explores the intersection between Greek Mythology and mental health. The creation of my sculpture started off quite simple, I wanted to build something and at the time, the myths of Greek mythology was my inspiration, but grounded through contemporary reality of mental health struggles. By placing these ancient figures in a modern setting, I hope to encourage viewers to think critically about the ways in which our contemporary world is shaped by the stories and myths that have come before us. The figure I created was depicted through Olympian gods, but also to signify everyday people – people who may be struggling with anxiety, depression or other mental challenges.

I hope to create work that a modern audience can resonate with and offer a message of self-empowerment and resilience, to be able to put themselves into perspective and imagine my piece as a representation of themself. By looking into the past of the Greek Gods, I seek to explore the struggles and challenges faced by the Gods of ancient Greece, and to offer my own interpretation of how they may have faced these difficulties - inviting viewers to engage with the myths of the past in a fresh and innovative way. I believe that the stories offer a powerful symbol of archetypes that can help us find strength and meaning in the face of adversity. If an opportunity was to come along, I would love to take my work and set it up within a museum space alongside other sculptures.
